(3) New Brighton

New Brighton used to be glorious: It had a pier, a tower, outdoor swimming baths and a beach adjoining the Mersey, with a great view of Liverpool.

People flocked to this little seaside town by the thousand. The local economy flourished, with many a B&B and hotel doing roaring trade, and the pubs were packing 'em in.

But this was all about a hundred years ago. The pier, tower, baths & tourists have gone; New Brighton is a fading star, in threat of implosion.

The inhabitants are protective of their historical attributes, and know more than most about the history of Wallasey in general. They like to think that they live in the expensive area of Wallasey, but they don't. They like to think that New Brighton is where it all happens, but it doesn't. Even though it is the Wallaseyan state with the most attractions, it's still nothing compared to its former self.

PLACES TO GO
New Brighton has more pubs within its boundaries than the other states, it also has a few amusement arcades and the only Wallaseyan night-clubs. In Wallasey, drinkers near the end of the night & parents during a sunny half term can all be heard to say "let's go down "the front" (to use the local name)."
