(4) Liscard Village
"Liscard" (to use its local name) began as farmland and markets, and is now a sprawling, residential labyrinth surrounding a two-bit pedestrianised shopping area. There was once a time when mothers didn't have jobs, would get a bus to Liscard and spend an afternoon shopping. They took so long because they had to visit about twelve shops just to purchase everything they wanted. Then Asda (albeit, as successor to Gateway) opened up and removed the necessity of visiting any of these other shops. As they all started closing, local councilman "Captain Brightspark" came up with an idea to save the state: they would place a dome over the pedestrianised shopping precinct, thereby making it a "mall" which trendy people would want to visit.
It didn't work because it was a stupid idea.
Then the rest of the decent shops left & were replaced by bargain basements & charity shops.
However, something keeps the local economy afloat, and it might be the peculiarly wide array of restaurants, cafes & take-away establishments - far more than the local populace can require.
PLACES TO GO
There are many pubs in Liscard, and you can read our reviews of some of them within these pages. Essentially, if you're looking for a trendy night out, then that is what Liscard vainly attempts to offer.
There are lots of nice places to eat though - there's even a McDonalds!
