How the participation ratings work
Each Dipsomania Society member has a participation rating (although some may be zero). The rating is automatically calculated by the Website, with the top 10 Dipsos (in terms of participation) being displayed on the leaderboard on the home page (this feature is invisible to non-members & members who aren't logged in).Members can collect points in the following ways:-
- 1. Submitting a profile
- 2. Displaying an image within your profile
- 3. Adding pub reviews
- 4. Uploading photos
- 5. "Speaking Your Brain"
- 6. Taking part in our polls
- 7. Taking the Dipso Quiz
- 8. Turning up to events
10 Participation Points
One of the great things about the new Website is that our members have the opportunity to write about themselves for submission to the ever-growing "Member Profile" pages.
By clicking on the "edit personal details" below your greeting you can use the text box therein to write anything you like about yourself*.
Submitting a profile earns the member a one-off score of 10 participation points.
10 Participation Points
Although it's lovely to have details of our members displayed on the website, it is really nothing without having photos of them. As the society continues to expand, people's chances of recognising each other on Pubcrawls diminishes. By adding a photo of yourself as a part of your member profile you are aiding to remedy this situation. Of course, there's nothing stopping you from adding a photo of somebody (or something) else, but we hope that people will add anything, rather than accept the default image available.
Adding an image earns the member a one-off score of 10 participation points.
5 Participation Points
You can add a review by going to the "Pubs" page, then selecting the area of the pub you wish to review, then selecting the specific pub. At the bottom of the current reviews will be an "add review" link. You can type what you wish about the pub in question*, then give it a rating out of ten (this latter point is actually compulsory for each review). These ratings then decide which pubs top the area-based pub league tables, so if a pub you like is doing poorly, or if a pub you hate is doing well, get reviewing.
Due to the Dipsomania Society wishing to increase people's knowledge of the local area, each review will gain the member 5 participation points.
3 Participation Points
Members have the ability to add photos to our extensive collections of photo albums. Simply go to the album you have a photo for, click the "upload photo" link & follow the very simple instructions on screen*.
The 3 points awarded are to encourage our photo hoarders to actually get them on to the website because we wanna see them all!
1 Participation Point
The "Hot Topic" section of the website is where the Senior Dipsomaniacs raise a point for debate in order that they may take on board the thoughts & feelings of the whole society before making any big decisions (our way of pretending we're a democracy, rather than a Domocracy).
By clicking on the title of the current topic you can read said topic in full, below which is an area for you to add your own comments*. The "News" section has a similar area, allowing for members to discuss the issue at hand.
Each submitted comment will gain the member 1 participation point.
1 Participation Point
We always have a poll active on the site. Because of this the actual quality of the polls can wax and wane rather violently as our inspiration & imagination does too. So whether the topic at hand relates to your thought & feelings in regard to a past/upcoming Pubcrawl event, or whether we are asking you which is best: Cars or Trains? you can have your say here.
Obviously the questions & answers are somewhat contrived, and the statistical results can not really be said to have any merit, but we enjoy them & sometimes they really do change Dipsomania Society policy.
Voting in each poll will gain the member 1 participation point.
1 Participation Point
Along with the Dipso polls we also keep a quiz running at all times. These comprise a set of multiple-choice based questions, designed to test our members' knowledge of certain Dipsomania Society facts. The quizzes remain online for longer than the polls & "Speak Your Brain" topics, in order to give everybody a chance at having a go at them (and also because they take a lot longer to compile).
Taking each quiz (regardless of score) will gain the member 1 participation point.
0 Participation Points
Although it's all well and good logging into this very fine website & getting lots of numbers after your name, there's only one thing that really matters to the Dipsomania Society and that is Pubcrawl attendance. So if you've not been to one for a while, why not try coming along? You won't get points (because we don't believe our friends should be paid in any way to spend time with us) but will earn greater respect & may even have fun...
